I have come to the conclusion that very few people really know and walk with God. This includes clergy, clergy leadership, as well as our friends, family and members of our congregations. This makes me very sad too.
I have found that the problem is that most folks are confused with terminology. They call themselves "Christians" because they go to church and they may even hold high positions in the church, but they do not walk with God: they are not in fellowship with God.
There are three terms that lend to this confusion: First, "Christian" in the broad sense, means that a person believes in Christ; that Jesus Christ was a real person on earth. It does not mean that they believe in His Divine nature or all of the facts of His Divinity, that they follow Scriptural teachings, the Ten Commandments, study their Bible or even go to church. The person I just described is what the Bible calls a "believer" as opposed to a "non-believer".
There are two types of believers. There is the believer who is in fellowship with God and there is the one who is not. You cannot love God and be in fellowship with Him if you do not love others. If you hold feelings against anyone, this is clear proof that you do not love God. The Great mark of loving God is the mark of loving others. Love shows if you are a child of God or of the devil (1 John 3:10): the person who does not love his brother or mistreats, abuses, neglects, ignores or gossips about his brother or sister is not of God. The person who does not live a holy life is not of God!
When we show God's love to everyone and when we strive to live by the example given to us in the Scripture, we are walking with God and we are in fellowship with God.
