In Loving Memory

J.D.Lee & Sons Funeral Home - Rogersville, Missouri
David Ruch
( September 12, 1953 - May 12, 2019 )
David was born in Topeka, KS, and lived all of his school years through high school graduation in the southern part of the San Luis Valley, Colorado. He became quite an independent outdoorsman at the young age of 5, learning survival skills and lessons from the older gentlemen in his small town. He became an avid hunter and fisherman through these years, keeping his mom’s freezer stocked with his daily catches!
Upon graduation from high school and hungering for the understanding and guidance of the Bible, David journeyed up into the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, armed with his rifle and packing his Bible close at hand. For eight months David battled extremes in temperature, rough weather, and loneliness, living in a teepee and never feeling warm or dry, studying the Scriptures and striving for a clearer understanding. He often said that his mountain experience changed his life and led him into full time godly leadership and service.
After his mountain experience, David traveled to his parents’ new home in West Plains, MO, where he established a new life and eventually met and married the love of his life, Rev. Dr. Madlyn Barry.
During his life, David learned the clock and watch repair skills of his father and became very successful in that business. David developed skills as a woodcarver, creating all sorts of little characters, Gnomes, Santa’s, and others, all painted bright shiny colors. He acquired his mother’s talent as a folk artist, painting many beautiful pictures, as well as designing and creating the book covers for Madlyn’s three published books. David also was an accomplished musician, providing guitar or banjo accompaniment as he and Madlyn performed as the Prairie Mission Singers in various worship services.
David was Co-Founder of Promised Land Ministries and Community Chapel and Promised Land Farm B & B, Spiritual Retreat and Campground, Fordland, MO. David’s grand finale was culminating all of his artistic skills and self-taught building skills in the creation and building, totally independent of any outside vendors, their dream log cabin. In his cabin, each log is hand carved to fit snugly on the next, and all cabinets, doors, and trim are hand crafted.
God truly blessed this man with many talents and he set out to use every single one.
He is survived by his wife Madlyn, a daughter, Ariel Ruch, a son, Alec Ruch, three step-daughters, Jennifer Strickland, Holley Coleman and Sara Coleman; a step-son, Robert Cika and his wife Jennifer; his mother, Virginia Ruch, two sisters, Barbara Starr and Marrianne Mock, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Avery Gordon Ruch, a brother, Daniel Ruch, and a step-daughter, Angela Coleman.
David would like for you all to remember the American Heart Association and his beloved Ministry when selecting where to place your support.
A Celebration of David’s life will take place in the Promised Land Community Chapel, 269 Clearwater Dr, Fordland, MO, 65652, on Sunday afternoon, July 28, 2019. He will be laid to rest in the chapel cemetery next to Madlyn’s parents, Minnie and Bob Barry.
