Promised Land Farm B&B and Spiritual Retreat
History of Promised Land Farm--Est. 2011
We first purchased our property, consisting of about eight (more or less) beautiful acres in the heart of the Ozarks of Fordland, Missouri, as a vacation place but soon realized that we should build our retirement home on this lovely site. This was long before our transition into our new culture. Actually, it was here that this transition began, and still continues.
We decided to build a house—an all-natural house. I cannot go into detail about all of the wonderful things that have happened to us throughout this building process that showed us that God was our leader in all of this. For this is the title of yet another book: “Back on the Farm: The House That God Built”! But I will say this: neither of us knew the first thing about building a house from scratch. I have to say, though, that David is a gifted man who can do just about anything and what he cannot do, he knows how to find the answers to all of his questions.
Three years later, the house was mostly finished. The log house sits over a large finished walk-out basement. Each log was finished to fit upon each other, tongue and groove style, individually handcrafted and carved for a snug fit. The inside trim was hand-carved to fit the curves of the individual nature of the logs. The ceiling, walls and floor are all natural wood, hand finished and placed to continue the rustic symmetry of the old-fashioned style log cabin. The bathroom cabinets, kitchen cabinets, and doors were all hand-made and lovingly sanded and finished, as were the counter tops, to add the all-natural and rustic feel that will surely take you back in time to years gone by.
Our farm is in a growing phase and this will continue, I am sure, for quite a while. So far, we have added a Chapel for worship and weddings, a small shop Building where David spent many hours with his wood carving, painting and other crafts, and a larger shop building where larger building projects come together. Our first guesthouse will be completed soon. We have 3 large gardens and will be adding chickens for meat and eggs and other animals. Our guests will have the opportunity to help around the farm with different projects that are in progress during their visit, and in return for their help, they will receive free lunch and supper.
All rooms have either a cozy double bed or a spacious queen bed.
Nightly rates are $35 (Lucy Room, double bed), $40 (Family Room, queen bed), and $45 (Art Room, queen bed). Each room accommodates 2 people.
Rates for Spiritual Retreat are $75 per person for Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon and includes all meals.
